A big thank you to everybody for making me feel very welcome at last Sunday’s Gemini Plus anniversary party. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many twins in the same room, I was definitely seeing double by the end of the day !

Due to the large number of images from the day, I am a few days behind on post processing the pictures but will start to upload the web gallery tomorrow and have all the images uploaded at the end of Monday.

Dog Photo Competition

Photographed this little chap today who looks just like Snowy from TinTin. My normal technique with dogs is to have a selection of different squeaky toys on hand to get their attention, however this wasn’t any good today as he was born deaf. This didn’t stop him charging around the studio having a great time. I managed to get some shots, once he had worn himself out a bit!

My picture of the week this week is one of the entries from our pet portrait competition. It was shot in our studio and the choice of background colour works so well with the dogs colour. It been really fun photographing the competition entries this week, who said you shouldn’t work with children and animals !

New frames and wall art samples

I’m very excited as I have just moved the gallery/viewing area around in the studio to make space for a new range of frames and wall art. All the new products should be here is the next 2 weeks including some fantastic acrylic frames which look amazing when hung together as a collection of images.

I can’t wait to get all the new stuff on the gallery walls. I’ll post some pictures as soon as they arrive.

This week’s picture of the week was taken indoors using natural daylight from a window on the left and a small reflector to fill in some of the shadows. It was taken using my 50mm lens which has recently become my favourite lens in my bag. It was shot with a shallow depth of field and the room lights in the background give additional interest to the picture.

Whilst we have a highkey studio, I also like to shot on location especially with kids and families as the images are very natural.

I am lucky that our studio is located in a rural setting with a number of great locations only a few minutes away. At the moment we are surrounded by a sea of bright yellow rapeseed flowers which makes an ideal backdrop for a fashion portrait or family location photo shoot. This image was taken this time last year on an overcast day but by adding a little bit of flash we can make the scene look like a bright sunny day.

I don’t always seem to get enough time to update the website as much as I would like and therefore I thought I would start a regular post with my pick of the image of the week. The idea being that I’ll post my favourite image from the week whether it’s family portraiture, newborns, babies, kids or commercial photography with a brief explanation as to why I like it or how it was shot technically.

This week I’ve chosen an image from a recent family studio portrait session. Towards the end of the session we were playing a game where the little girl was running between Mum and Dad (who are off camera) with Igglepiggle. I encourage play as part of our photo sessions with kids as it creates a relaxed environment to capture beautiful natural expressions.

Individually the images are lovely with some great expressions, but when you combine them together into a composite picture, it really tells the story of the fun she was having running backwards and forwards looking for Igglepiggle.
